What with all the anti-condom, anti-contraceptive pushes from some of
the more conservative states, it would be interesting to see how
effective the strategy has been compared to the more liberal ideas of
providing condoms to teens for free and teaching contraception. As the
table at the left shows:
-- Of the top 25 states by teenage births, 88% are red states, voting
for George W. Bush in 2004.
-- Of the bottom 25 states according to teenage birthday, only 40% are
red states. 60% of the states below the median are blue states.
Is it possible that, as the numbers seem to indicate, the so-called
"liberal" methods of providing sex education is more effective than the
conservative "abstinence-only" method? What else might explain these
numbers?
